Most clients experience minimal discomfort rather than true pain. To ensure your comfort, we apply high-quality, FDA-approved topical anesthetics (lidocaine-based) before and during the procedure. Many clients describe the sensation as a light scratching or vibrating feeling, and some even fall asleep during the session.
PMU is considered “low-maintenance,” not “no-maintenance.” Results typically last between 1 and 3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure. Because the pigment is deposited more shallowly than a traditional tattoo, it will naturally fade over time. We recommend a “color boost” or touch-up session every 12–24 months to keep your look fresh and vibrant.
Proper preparation is key to the best pigment retention:
· 24 Hours Prior: Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen or aspirin.
· 1–2 Weeks Prior: Discontinue use of Retinol, AHAs, or chemical exfoliants near the treatment area.
· Cosmetic Timing: If you use Botox or fillers, ensure your injections are done at least 2–4 weeks before your PMU session.
The full healing cycle takes about 4 to 6 weeks.· Days 1–5: The color will appear significantly darker and bolder than the final result.· Days 5–10: You may experience light flaking or “peeling.” It is critical that you do not pick or scratch these flakes, as this can pull pigment out and cause patchy results.· Final Result: Once the surface has healed, the color will soften by approximately 20–40% to reveal a natural, settled shade.
While PMU is suitable for most people, certain contraindications may prevent us from performing the procedure. You are generally not a candidate if you are:· Pregnant or breastfeeding.· Taking Accutane (must be off for at least 1 year).· Undergoing active chemotherapy.· Prone to keloid scarring or have an active skin infection in the area.
